It was a sight to behold, as the Y2K Spitfire landed at 19 Wing on Tuesday. A millennium project started by volunteers of the Comox Air Force Museum back in 2000 literally came full circle. The vision 18 years ago was to see this WW II aircraft take flight and that is just what it did with the support of Vintage Wings Canada. On hand to witness this major event was former W/C Stocky Edwards, one of the few remaining pilots who flew Spitfires during that war.

The CAFM commemorates the role and history of 19 Wing (CFB/RCAF/RAF), documenting significant achievements in West Coast Military Aviation History. Founded in 1982 as part of the Air Force Indoctrination School, CAFM was accredited as a stand-alone Canadian Forces Museum and officially opened its doors to the public on 12 September 1987.
