Meet Allison, our Museum Librarian, and so much more… “After many years of working a regular job, finally came age 55 and retirement. Wahooey! It didn’t take long to realize that I needed more in my thought processes to get me through the day.
When I went back to full time volunteering at the Museum, it was like coming home! Everything I needed to keep myself interested in daily occurrences, research, or friendly coffee time banter, was right there. And a feeling that I was able to give back was the icing on this cake. It is the perfect job for me; one I wish I’d found when I was 35 years old.”
Norm loves to greet visitors on Thursdays and contributes to our website. “Why do I volunteer? I am a proud volunteer at the Comox Air Force Museum. Joining in 2014, I have a love of military history and enjoy people. Unfortunately in September 2015 I had a severe stroke which curtailed my involvement for almost 12 months due to hospitals and rehab treatments. Being now partially recovered, I returned to the Museum in April 2017 and now do what my limits allow and do whatever I can to help. What is very apparent is the fact that by being back working with my co-volunteers it has certainly helped me to continue with my recovery. The first step is usually the hardest; remember… YES YOU CAN.”
