During the week of April 7thto 13th, should you visit our Museum, you’ll see a poster next to the entry reminding us all that it’s National Volunteer Week.

The Comox Air Force Museum is a member of Volunteer Canada.  Each year National Volunteer Week celebrates the important work that volunteers do in and for their communities.  It’s dedicated to recognizing and thanking the 12.7 million volunteers in Canada for the time and energy they contribute.

This year’s theme is The Volunteer Factor – Lifting Communities.  It celebrates and recognizes the impact of volunteers and how they lift their communities. “The image of the hot air balloons of different sizes, shapes and colours reflects the diversity of community volunteers.  It illustrates that when people volunteer together, the sky is the limit in terms of what they can achieve.”

Our Museum thrives because of its volunteers.  We contribute in a number of ways:

Some of us welcome visitors to the Museum and work in the Gift Shop.  It’s a wonderful place to get to know the Museum and to meet people with interesting stories from all over the world.

Some lend a hand arranging off-site displays at local events, paint, or help with the construction of exhibits.  It’s a real team effort to bring special projects to fruition.

Some volunteer in the Museum’s Research Library. We help visitors find what they need, do research, manage our vast book collection, and to help catalogue the photo collection.

Some volunteer with Heritage Maintenance Team. They do general repairs and maintenance of the aircraft in the Air Park as well as our collection of heritage vehicles. It involves a good team to accomplish the vast amount of work this takes.

We are proud of the work we do, the contributions we’ve made to our local community, to the community of Air Force Museums, and love to spend time together as a family community here at the Museum.  Come in for a visit and meet us!
