The week of February 15th to the 21st is Heritage Week in the Comox Valley!
The Comox Air Force Museum will be one of nine museums participating in this year’s Heritage Week celebrations, running from February 15th to the 21st, beginning at 11:30 am.
Along with the HMCS Alberni Museum and Memorial, CAFM will be holding an exhibit in the Comox Center Mall, featuring our Ejection seat, Air Force art, parachute and, in recognition of the Golden Anniversary of the raising of the Maple Leaf on the Peace Tower, a unique display of flags.
The Comox Center Mall kicks off the week with the Flag Day ceremonies including speeches , fiddle music, Scottish dancers and pipers, and a cupcake flag donated by John’s Independant Grocers, on opening day, Sunday, February 15. Army, Air Force and Navy cadets will be on hand to give out flags and guide visitors through the exhibits, which will be open until the end of Heritage Week, Saturday, February 21.
On that day, CAFM will move part of the display from the Comox Center Mall to Cumberland where we will be participating in the Cumberland Heritage Fair. This years theme is Main Street- the Heart of the Community, and CAFM will be displaying artefacts related to the theme as well as our ejection seat, which will be available to the public for photo opportunities.
