Today’s BC Museums Week focus gives our Museum the opportunity to introduce you to “Our People”, the Museum staff as well as the volunteers who so readily give of their time and experiences to support the work of the Museum.

Our staff includes the Museum Director, Captain Lynn Barley; the Deputy Director, Sgt Mike O’Rourke; and the Program Manager/Volunteer Coordinator, Carol Popkin.  It is their responsibility to create and oversee “the big picture”.

Our Gift Shop Manager is Miriam; she ensures that our guests can avail themselves of some interesting souvenirs as they leave after their visit. Miriam also gives of her time as a volunteer.

Our volunteer force consists of almost 30 dedicated people; some are from military backgrounds and some are from civilian life.  But it’s who we are when we come together that makes us feel more like a Museum Family.

Our Museum thrives because of its volunteers.  We contribute in a variety of ways, and wear a number of hats as we give our time:

We welcome visitors to the Museum and work in the Gift Shop.  It’s a wonderful place to get to know the Museum and to meet people with interesting stories from all over the world.  We enjoy sharing our favourite sections of the Museum with our guests.

We lend a hand arranging and manning off-site displays at local events.

We volunteer in the Museum’s Research Library. We help visitors find what they need, do research, manage our vast book collection, and help catalogue the photo collection.

We volunteer with Heritage Maintenance Team. They do general repairs and maintenance of the aircraft in the Heritage Air Park as well as our collection of heritage vehicles. It involves a good team to accomplish the vast amount of work this takes.

We work to construct display items and to keep the Museum in good repair. We help with the construction of exhibits in our Museum’s main gallery.  It takes a real team effort to bring special projects to fruition.

We maintain the Heritage Stones found in our Air Park, ensuring that visitors to the Air Park can celebrate the contributions of those named on the stones.

We work on our Museum’s website.  We work to maintain our social media presence, offering our subscribers and Facebook followers a variety of stories, past and present.

We meet regularly as members of the Collections Management Committee, working together to accession donations.

We work with our archives, documenting each item.

We serve on our Comox Valley Air Force Museum Association’s Board of Directors to further support the work of our Museum.

We come together and celebrate our accomplishments, our milestones, our contributions:
